What are the benefits of studying at LBS?

How are the programmes graded?

All of LBS programmes are graded by faculty.

Are there advantages of a full-time MBA over the other MBAs?

The Full-time programme is for young professionals with at least 3 years of work experience looking to boost their career and increase their earning potential. They are available to attend classes full-time during the 18 month period of their programme. All MBA students go through the same curriculum, the major difference lies in the duration  and timeline of the programmes.  All our MBA programmes are optimally designed to suit students at various life stages. You get full value regardless of whichever programme you decide to enrol in.

Can I tailor my MBA?

The  LBS MBA equips participants with a thorough  knowledge of main business disciplines, analytical competencies and problem-solving capabilities. MBA students are required to offer all courses in their first year but have options of picking specilaised electives in their second year.

 

How long does the programme last?

Full-time MBA: 18 months 

Modular MBA: 24 months

Executive MBA: 24 months

Modular MBA: 24 months

What courses/modules are offered?

The MBA programme is a generalist MBA, meaning it’s not specialised in any particular area. It is a business MBA that equips participants with a thorough knowledge of main business disciplines, analytical competencies, and problem-solving capabilities. Focus includes:

  • Strategy, entrepreneurship, social and political environment of business and business law
  • Operations, Marketing, Information Systems
  • Organisational Behaviour, Management Communication, Negotiation HRM
  • General (Business Ethics and Decision Analysis).

 

How many intakes does LBS have each year?

LBS has 4 intakes: 2 in January, 1 in August and September

 

Does owning or managing my own business count as work experience?

Yes. Full-time and Modular MBAs require 3 years of work/entrepreneurial experience while Executive and Modular Executive MBAs require 7 years of work/entrepreneurial experience with a minimum of 3 years managerial experience.

Can I apply even without having a business background?

Yes, you don’t need a business degree or previous business experience to apply for our MBA programme. We have had successful applicants from diverse professional and academic backgrounds including law, life sciences, medicine and the arts. All we require is that you fulfil all application eligibility criteria, as we consider your past experience and performance when assessing your application.

What is the LBS MBA readiness assessment test?

The LBS MBA readiness assessment test is  an optional test designed to help participants know which MBA programme they are best suited for and which is tailored specifically to meet their needs and schedule.

Is LBS affiliated with any foreign learning institutions?

The LBS partners with some foreign business schools like- University of Bocconi (Italy), Ipade Business School (Mexico), Neoma Business School (France), IESE Business School (Spain), Indian Institute of Management (India), IESEG School of Business (France), Graduate School of Business Cape Town (South Africa), Smith School of Business (Canada), Nanyang Business School (Singapore), MIDE Business School (Cote d’ívorie), EBS University (Germany), Gordon Institute of Business Science (South Africa), Strathmore Business School (Kenya), University of Dubai (UAE).

What is the language of instruction at LBS?

English is the primary language of instruction at LBS.

Do I need to provide proof of fluency in English, if English is not my native language?

No, you do not. A credit in English language in your O’level result or its equivalent will suffice.

Can I stop the programme halfway through and continue it later?

Yes, the programme can be stopped halfway through and deferred to a later date, but the admission offices and administrators should be properly informed to guide you through the process.

What methods of teaching are employed?

Education at LBS is comprehensive, drawing on the experiences of a multinational faculty and participants. Learning is participant-centred. The LBS MBA  Programme employs a variety of case methodologies, simulations, group learning, and roleplays.

 

 

 

What is the timeline for applying for an MBA programme?

Full-time MBA: Application starts in January and ends in August every year.

Modular MBA: The application starts in March and ends in December every year.

Executive MBA: The application starts in March and ends in December every year.

Modular Executive MBA: The application starts in September and ends in June every year.

What type of tests are required to apply?

Full-Time MBA and Modular MBA applicants must take either GRE, GMAT, ESA, or NMAT, while Executive MBA and Modular Executive MBA applicants must take either GRE, GMAT, ESA, NMAT or the LBS entrance exam.

Does LBS accept transfers from other schools?

Not at this time, LBS doesn’t currently accept transfers from other schools.

How many years of work experience do I need to be admitted?

This would depend on the programme that has been chosen. We require a minimum of 3 years experience for the Full time and Modular MBAs and 7 years for the Executive and Modular Executive MBAs.

Are there any age restrictions for applications?

Not at all. There are no age restrictions. We only recommend that if you have above 10 years of post-graduate work experience, you apply for either of the Executive MBAs. In the Executive programme, you will have the opportunity to learn and collaborate with your peers in a more experienced group.

Can I apply online?

Yes, you can. Applications are primarily online.

What should I do if I experience technical challenges during my application?

The admissions officers are always on ground to help you through the application process. Reach out to them once you encounter a problem.

How can I check if my online application has been received?

The candidate will get a mail and will also be reached out to by an admissions officer.

Will you provide feedback on an unsuccessful application?

Yes, feedback will be provided.

If my application was unsuccessful, may I reapply?

You are free to reapply if your application was unsuccessful.

Can I apply without an undergraduate degree?

No, you can’t. The first degree is one of the admissions requirement to get into LBS.

Is there a minimum score for applying for the GRE, GMAT or NMAT?

GRE: 270

GMAT: 570

NMAT: 170

 

I have taken the GMAT more than once. Which score would you consider?

Always submit your best score.

Can I apply before taking the GMAT?

Yes, you can.

Is there an interview required for admission?

Yes, an interview is required. Once a candidate writes and passes the entrance test, they will be scheduled for an interview with some faculty members. It is a compulsory step in the admissions process.

 

How will I hear if I have been selected for an interview?

You will be reached out to by an admissions officer and also get a mail prompt to that effect.

When will I hear if I have been granted admission?

Once the candidate fulfils all admissions requirement and is enrolled, he/she will be issued an admissions letter informing him/her of the success of their admission.

How do I add extra information if I have already submitted my application?

Once an application has been submitted, any corrections to be made can only be done by contacting the admissions office.

Can I postpone my application submission to the next intake?

Yes, you can but you have to duly inform the admissions officer in charge of your application.

Can I defer admission?

Yes, you can.

How much does the MBA programme cost?

Full-time MBA: N7,000,000

Modular MBA: N7,200,000

Executive MBA: N8,400,000

Modular Executive MBA: N8,400,000

Are tuition fees the same for international students?

All programmes cost $20,000 for international students.

What are the estimated living expenses?

This would depend on your budget and lifestyle but we see an average of N 500,000 a year for rent.

What is the fee payment schedule?

Full-time MBA: Payable in 6 instalments with an initial deposit of 1.5 million

Modular MBA: Payable in 8 instalments with an initial deposit of 1.2 million.

Executive MBA: Payable in 8 instalments with an initial deposit of 2 million.

Modular Executive MBA: Payable in 8 instalments with an initial deposit of 2 million.

How can I fund my studies?

Undertaking an LBS MBA yields a lifetime of personal and professional benefits. Funding could be from personal savings, loans, family gifts, company sponsorship, as well as LBS or external scholarships.

What financial aid is available?

Merit-based Scholarship: Limited slots for students with outstanding academic results.

Need-based Scholarships: Limited slots for students facing financial difficulties. NB- proof must be shown.

Medical Background: Limited slots for students with medical school background; sponsored by Q Life

International students: Limited slots available courtesy of the Mandela institute for development studies

NB- Financial aids are only available when a student has been given admission. Scholarships are not 100%.

 

Are there other options for financing an MBA?

Loans are available with banks in affiliation with the school. E.g, Polaris, GTBank, Edfin Microfinance Bank.

Do you offer any scholarships?

Yes, but this is majorly dependent on the programme and academic performance of the candidate.

How many scholarships can I apply for?

You may apply for only one scholarship at a time.

Will I be informed of the scholarship decision?

Yes, you will. An admissions officer will get in touch with you.

What is the typical day of an LBS student?

A typical day begins with group study in a business executive meeting setting. Classes to discuss case studies with facilitators interspersed with tea/coffee breaks and lunch in between sessions. The rest of the day is yours to explore the beautiful city of lagos and make lifelong connections.

Does LBS have housing options or hostels for their cohorts?

No, however, affiliated hostels around the environs offer discounts.

What time and how long does the class hold?

Full-time MBA (FTMBA): Mondays-Fridays 9 am-3:30 pm

Modular MBA (MMBA): Tuesdays-Thursdays 5:30 pm-7 pm; Saturdays 9:30 am-3:30 pm; and one intensive week every quarter Saturday-Saturday 8:30 am-5:15 pm

Executive MBA (EMBA): Fridays 2 pm-8 pm; Saturdays 9 am-3 pm

Modular Executive MBA (MEMBA): Saturday 9:30 am-10:45 am; and one intensive week every two months Saturday-Saturday 8:30 am-5:15 pm

Can my work life be mixed with my school life – how flexible is the schedule?

Yes, the modular MBA and Modular Executive MBA programmes are designed to be flexible with work schedules. The programmes are a mixture of online and physical classes.

 

Are there extracurricular activities?

Yes; inter-cohort team bonding exercises, group hang-outs, career fairs, and family days.

What chances are available to network across board or at hosted events?

Many networking opportunities are available within and across campus as well as across different programmes. Over the course of a programme, participants will be able to interact with key business leaders, alumni, and international students through events, competitions and group projects with other business schools world wide.

Are there exchange programmes available?

Yes, we have international immersion trips. However, they come at an additional cost.

No, grades are not disclosed to recruiters.

What support is available upon completion of the programme?

MBA Careers provides support to the Full-Time and Modular MBA on career choices and placement upon completion of the programmes.

How easily can I make a career change after LBS?

The LBS MBA prepares you to fit easily  into any area of specialisation.

What are the chances of securing a job in Nigeria, as an international student?

The chance of securing a job in Nigeria as an international student is high. The LBS offers job placement for students at the end of their MBA studies.

Are MBA internships available?

The internship programme is an integral part of the Full-time MBA programme. It is compulsory and forms part of the curriculum. Participants gain work and practical experience through working on projects at leading business institutions and organisations.

If I want to change careers, which programme would be better for me?

Depending on your years of experience, any of the MBAs will work well for you. The LBS MBA is a generalist MBA and this will give you enough room to explore and pick an area of strength. This equips our participants with relevant skills to explore any future career or business opportunities.
